Winter Solstice Greetings! (December 21st, 2018) Today marks the first day of winter as well as the solstice, a sacred day in many indigenous cultures. As we celebrate the passing of the shortest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, we look forward to spending time with our families and loved ones. Traditionally, this has been a time of storytelling and gathering in long winter nights during which gifts and knowledge can be shared. We hope that your winter season is full of joy, love and beauty.
During this time of year, the two light daggers frame the spiral petroglyph atop Fajada Butte in Chaco Canyon, NM. Indigenous master builders marked this moment annually with the placement of large tablature stones to ensure the timely occurrence, a practice many contemporaries incorporate into their designs today. As we take a moment to reflect on the knowledge amassed and handed down by our ancestors, we appreciate their presence and honor this traditional knowledge.
AICAE would like to thank all of our members and supporters for sharing their wisdom this year and we wish continued success in the coming year.
